PM slams Opposition over sexist remark against Shaina NC: Filthy language used

Prime Minister Narendra Modi condemned the derogatory remark made against Shiv Sena (Eknath Shinde faction) leader Shaina NC that sparked widespread criticism across Maharashtra. Arvind Sawant, an MP from the Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena, allegedly referred to Shaina as “imported maal” in a viral video, igniting backlash.
Without naming Shaina, the Prime Minister criticised the Congress and its allies for their use of derogatory language toward women leaders from other parties.
“In Maharashtra, a sister (Shaina) is contesting the election, and look at the filthy language used against her. This has become their habit,” he said at a rally in Jharkhand’s Chaibasa on Monday.

PM Modi also pointed to similar instances in Jharkhand. He said the recent comments by Congress leader Irfan Ansari against Sita Soren, the sister-in-law of Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren, were disrespectful to all tribal mothers and sisters.
“We have all seen what they have done with our sister Sita Soren. Such remarks by a Congress leader are a disrespect to the tribal community,” he added.
Meanwhile, Arvind Sawant, the Shiv Sena (UBT) leader apologised for his sexist jibe at Shaina NC and said that he didn’t have any intention to defame anyone following a massive backlash.
“My statement was tweaked. If someone got hurt by my statement, I apologise to them. I have never insulted women in 55 years of my political career,” he said.
Shaina NC left the BJP and joined the Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena last week. She had surprisingly featured in the Shiv Sena’s candidate list when she was in the BJP. Hours later, she joined the Shinde-led party.
